The Bay has now put it's foot back in the Hip-Hop game. Coming out with Bay vertans like E-40 and Too $hort leading the way, the Bay Area has been hopping off some "Hyphy"ness as of late. It seems that some of the old Bay cats that have been getting a lot of air play are being considered almost "mainstream". Is this true? You see this question being asked a lot in Hip-Hop as of late. But is there ever a real answer to the question? I think not. Every artist has their reasons on going towards "mainstream" music, but for some artists there is no other way to go. In my personal opinion, to go mainstream is not a bad thing. I am a Hip-Hop/Rap fan, I listen to all walks of life. I do not get down with most of that stuff on MTV, BET, VH1, that is called Hip-Hop. Most of those cats you see on those type of programs may or may not have been where they rap about being, they may not have done the things that the rap about doing. The Bay Area is one of the only places, as a whole, that has cats coming out with hit records and even "mainstream" music, and speaking exactly what they have done or are still doing, and where they are from. Most of the Bay Area's artists are still respected by "the streets". To me that is a big part of who you are as an artists. Back in the day when Hip-Hop first started to roll, you weren't anything unless the streets said you were. Now, Hip-Hop has gone so mainstream that know one knows for sure if the artists is real or not.

Crunk and Hyphy are cousins mayne. Ask every single artist from the south and the bay and they will tell you the same thing. People need to realize that there may had never been a "south explosion" without Lil Jon. And there would had been no Lil Jon if it wasn't for Too $hort and other Bay artists. Why do you think most Bay cats get Lil Jon beats all day? It aint cuz they gots money, I can tell ya that much. But I understand you opinion on the matter. Some folks just aint down with certain styles. And that's gravy. As long as there is that line of respect, you know?.
