I'm different than most people. Some people enjoy gangsta or hardcore shit, others prefer some really deep, though-provoking, conscious rhymes. But what I've noticed about myself is that even though I might get thrown into the conscious-listeners crowd, I'm not necessarily a conscious rap fan, so to speak. I like wordplay and aggressive delivery over gritty production. What the rapper is saying doesn't really matter to me, but how he flows over that grimy beat is what gets me.
I guess i like very aggresive rap in the style of ''the ripper strikes back'' of ll cool j, lyrics are also very important, just as the beat of the song and the flow of the lyrics with it. For example i like breathe of fabolous alot but the lyrics of that song aint what you call top notch. So lyrics are not the most important part of rap imho. I also like rap in the style of slim shady, for example sentences like "You''re probably hear me rap half-hearted; cause I don''t like rap anyway I''m just tryin to get my porno career started".
Most of the time, I prefer rap that I can relate to. No G-Unit, no Eminem, none of that. But like Atmosphere, and Unknown Prophets, Brother Ali.. etc etc.
But if I'm just sitting at the computer listening to music while doin other shit, stuff like Nelly, and Eminem and all them are probably going to be playing, because I can easily tune out their voices and just hear the beat.
